A day after practicing with the team for the first time in a week, Devils Captain Andy Greene will wait a little longer for his return to the lineup as he works his way back from an arm injury. Center Vern Fiddler will also sit out tonight’s 8 PM EST contest versus the Western Conference leading Minnesota Wild.
The Wild enter tonight’s contest as the highest scoring team in the Western Conference averaging 3.26 goals per game, whereas the Devils sit at a paltry 2.18, so New Jersey will have to avoid getting into a shootout with the Wild.
Minnesota is led by a rejuvenated Eric Staal, who is enjoying one of his best seasons in recent memory, and the NHL’s best goaltender, Devan Dubnyk. The Wild are six defenseman deep and have seen their corps take a big step forward thanks to the guidance of former Devils Captain, Scott Stevens.
With the victory, the Devils can climb within three points of a playoff spot, however, that number is skewered with a bunch of teams in front of them who have games in hand.
The Devils lines will stay the same as the previous two contests and Cory Schneider gets the start
